Associates Graphic Services has always been focused on surpassing the customers’ expectations. To continue these efforts, AGS recently took a deeper look into the materials used to produce our printed products. Realizing that the worlds forests are in danger from the destructive habits of certain producers, AGS wanted to ensure that the products we use are environmentally and economically sustainable.
After consideration of numerous certifying bodies, it became evident that the Forest Stewardship Council would be the most effective certification option for AGS to contribute to responsible forest management. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international, independent certification body that promotes “environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world's forests.”
The FSC is the only global standard setting organization in forest management. In addition, it’s the only certification system where social, environmental and industry interests carry the same weight. For AGS, a global and well-balanced approach to this problem was key. Not only is the FSC concerned with being environmentally responsible, their policies promote socially beneficial as well as economically viable practices.
AGS’ Chain of Custody Certification number is SW-COC-002625 and appears on the logo pictured above. Chain of Custody is defined by the FSC as, “the path taken by raw materials from the forest to the consumer, including all successive stages of processing, transformation, manufacturing and distribution.”
The FSC label enables consumers to choose forest products with the confidence that they are not contributing to the destruction of the world's forests. By buying from a certified source, you are providing an incentive for responsible forest management.
